Dowel pinning in phalangeal fractures

Abstract The objective of this case series was to report the outcome a new technique for surgical treatment phalangeal fractures in cats and dogs. Medical records dogs presented with treated dowel pinning were retrospectively reviewed. Cases included when clinical examination radiographic follow‐up evaluation at least 6 months available. Complications during healing period final functional analysed. Two six fulfilled inclusion criteria. Closed single phalanx predominated. All diaphyseal, transverse displaced. Malunions occurred two Complete union achieved all cases follow‐up. In conclusion, Dowel found be an effective displaced, diaphyseal proximal middle viable alternative digit amputation.
